(More customer reviews)We were looking for a nice, dark-looking wood or rattan outdoor storage box. The two we settled on were either this product, or the pottery barn outdoor wood storage box. We decided on this box because it didn't require any maintenance such as sanding and restaining. It also is lighter making it easier to move, and it is half as expensive. The product just arrived and I assembled it last night. Assembly was very quick and easy. The box is constructed from a plastic material which is intended to have a "wood-look". Up close it is clearly not wood, but the dark color and slatted appearance make it the best looking plastic storage box I have seen so far. We're pleased with the overall look of it together with our existing outdoor furniture.When it is assembled it seems quite sturdy and has no problem supporting two adults for bench seating just as advertised. Also, it is one of the larger storage boxes available capable of holding a hefty 150 gallons. Overall, our first impression after assembly is very good. The box is just what we were hoping for in terms of appearance, size, weight, and ability to provide additional seating. The only unknown for us is how well it holds up to the elements, which is the reason its received four instead of five stars. I plan on updating this review in a year to address this.Addendum: After having the box for a full year, we remain very pleased with it. Throughout a hard winter all of the contents remained dry. It was also fairly easy to clean with just soap and water. As of now I would highly recommend the box as it has functioned well for us.

Rubbermaid Patio Storage Bench Review

(More customer reviews)The last review I saw said there were no instructions to put the bench together. First of all, there are instructions on the box! (You have to be smarter than the bench.) Second, there are 5 or 6 giant pieces that just snap together. There's no hardware, no tools necessary. My 9 year old helped me put it together.
As for how well it works, I haven't had any trouble with water getting in, so maybe the person who couldn't figure out how to put it together put it together wrong. It has plenty of storage space for my charcoal and other grilling supplies as well as a few other patio items I wanted to store.
My only disappointment is that the storage space wasn't large enough for my swing cushions, but that is fine. I mostly wanted it for my grilling supplies anyways.
It seats at least two people comfortably and seems pretty stable. Also it looks nice on the patio unlike just getting a large storage box.

Only one disappointment: we recently purchased patio furniture, and this box is not big enough to hold any of the cushions. I was able to fit the following:
* 4 chair seat bottoms
* 1 lower 2-seater bench cushion
* 1 thick 2-seater back bench cushion
* 2 large swivel chair bottom cushions
* 2 thick swivel chair back cushions
These cushions max out every inch of the space inside, but it is exactly'
what I wanted.
The only complaint I have is the cheesy plastic loops that "help" keep the lid open.
This was a very cheap solution. I own other containers like this that actually have
a gas stay inside. I would have paid a few dollars more to have a better device like that.
Sadly, no one else makes a container this big. So this is kind of your only choice out there.
Another note, if you are going to put this beside a wall, it will have to sit several inches
away from the wall to allow the lid to open all of the way. This item is so huge, it is kind of a bummer
that the design forces you to have it out so far from the wall. My house is made of stucco, so repeated
banging into the wall creates bald spots on the stucco, this is a problem for us.
It was super easy to put together. I was done in just a few minutes. Don't worry about all of those complaints.
If you need a lot of storage, you can't do better than this one. Size is it's strength.
Just remember, you are not paying for something made of bricks, it is inexpensive and made of plastic.
If you keep this in mind, you will not be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)I read negative reviews but decided to order anyway. The price seemed excellent--far below the current price and below any at the big box stores. My package arrived quickly but had been opened previously, damaged, ripped, and taped back together by a second grader (most likely). It was almost comical to put together. It took two of us because pieces kept falling down after they had been assembled. Finally, we got the thing together and when the lid was lifted, the side tried to fall out. We had to use Liquid Nails on a peg on each side. The next day I opened the lid and sides fell out again. Now Liquid Nails has been applied to every "joint." We hadn't planned to sit on this and will warn anyone against it (that's just ours...not yours). Needed a waterproof box to store gardening equipment (okay...junk)on our patio. Cannot recommend this Rubbermaid (who'da thunk?) product for anything other than a possible sitcom prop.

Leaving them out isn't an option if you want them to stay nice, and storing them in the house or garage and bringing them out when you want to sit down isn't very practical.
So I started looking for storage chests. My husband didn't believe that Amazon would carry such items, but being a long-time Amazon-shopper, I know that it's the first place to go for info and reviews on good products to buy!
I saw that smaller storage chests are just too small. One of them had a number of reviews saying that you can't even put cushions to 4 chairs in there. I knew we needed something bigger.
We are thrilled with this storage chest. My husband said it was a pleasure to put together - ridiculously easy - no tools required and the plastic pieces just snap together! I wish I could say the same for the rest of our patio furniture! Also, this item is extremely well-made. You can open the lid, or prop the lid up with the stick provided (like a grand piano's small stick) and open the doors. You can also put a padlock on it.
This is an attractive addition to our patio and it holds our 8 cushions with room to spare!

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these because I needed a slightly smaller (73 gallon) box. I also bought 2 of the 132 gal Keter boxes. Although this is a "good" box, the Keter is an excellent box. The Keter in comparison is slightly stiffer, sturdier, and although both boxes snap together, the Keter has a 4 easy to install screws for added strength. The keter box also came with hydraulic lid lifters which are of good quality (I was surprised). Both boxes keep out rain water, but are not sealed so any moisture inside can get out. The Suncast box had wheels which I don't use. The Ketter didn't. I ordered my Suncast box via walmart site to store for $65 and got the Keter at Sams for 99 dollars. The lid on the Keter "snaps" shut in case of wind, the Suncast lid just lies there.

Suncast SS1000 Storage Seat Review

(More customer reviews)Though this is not a toy box (by which I mean it does NOT include safety features like air holes), it was a cheap solution to my toddler's accumulation of messy looking toys in the backyard. I didn't want to carry dirt-encrusted toys into my house, and I couldn't stand to look at them any longer.
This comes flat. I assembled it myself in a few minutes without tools. It takes heavy pressure to pop the pieces together, but an average woman like myself can manage it. It looks fine, but it is not perfectly square and smooth. The plastic sides are thin enough that they can flex a bit and be slightly bowed.
The lid is not hinged. It simply sits on top of the box. The lid is not water-tight. If you store it in the open outdoors, objects inside will get wet/damp when it rains. For plastic toys, this hasn't been a problem for me.
An average size adult can sit on the lid and use it as a bench. It is only wide enough for one person. I don't know the maximum weight limit, but we've put about 175 pounds on it. It is slightly shifty/wobbly, so I wouldn't let a really large person sit on it, nor would I let a child climb on it as a toy. The lid could shift, etc.
I like it well enough that I'm considering getting a larger (wider) box like this for our front porch to hide a snow shovel and sand in the winter, and our beach toys and broom in the summer. I'm trying to find one assembled in a store to check out first, however, because a larger bench could be dangerous unless it is built a bit more sturdily than this small one.

Several comments a year and a half after my original review complain that my review differs from their own experience of the box. Perhaps the box design changed between my initial review in 2005 and the product people received in 2007 and later? My box does not have a hinged lid, and a bit of water continues to enter the box, especially during wind-driven rain or snow that comes in at a low angle. The box is still in my yard, still holds an average adult with just a slightly wobbly bit of shifting, and it has lasted through over five years of New England weather very well.
I am very comfortable assembling DIY products and I follow directions precisely. I still recommend this box, and I'm happy to hear that it seems to be even better now than the one I got that has been so durable.

Cedar Storage Bench-Outdoor Ready-With Cushion (Cedar w/ Natural Cushion) (Long - 18"h x 52"w x 19"d) Review

(More customer reviews)I received this item and was a little disappointed. The floor of the bench housing is just cheap (very cheap) plywood. The lid is also plywood (although it has a cedar frame around it for looks, and, the top of the plywood is covered by the cushion). The thickness of the cedar is only 3/8". The cedar, however, is genuine, and, it is well shaped tongue and groove.
The cushion is not really "natural." It is darker - more of a light brown.
This is rated for "moderate" assembly skills. The unit was poorly drilled at the factory. The holes are all over the place. I had to remove some of the factory set screws, and, re-set them because the panels were not assembled at the factory correctly. It took about 45 minutes to assemble with a cordless screwdriver.
Before assembly, I sprayed it with tung oil (the best possible preservative for wood). I mixed the tung oil with an equal amount of citrus solvent to thin it. The wood was so dry that it, literally, sucked up the oil. I am hoping it will help it weather as I intend to keep this outside.
It looks okay. I bought it to keep spa supplies out of doors, near the spa, during the summertime. It will serve that purpose.
This appears to have been designed for indoor use (mostly decoration and light storage).
It isn't worth much more than $150.00 to $200.00 (including shipping). I also hope this helps.

The plastic seems strong enough to last awhile and yet it's light enough to move around. The lid isn't too heavy and won't hurt little fingers too badly if they're caught. Assembly gets highest marks, my 6 year old and I had it done in under 5 minutes. Pieces are clearly marked and it literally snaps together. We're considering another for a separate area of the play yard.

(More customer reviews)I've been hunting a storage box for around the pool for quite some time but have hesitated to purchase because they are all so expensive...so I was very excited to find this box. What a great price! It assembled easily, although a little better care could be taken during manufacturing to make sure the screw holes line up more precisely (I have had this same problem will all "assemble it yourself" outdoor furniture, though). Just make sure to follow the instructions and only hand-tighten the screws until after the whole box is assembled, then go back and tighten everything up. It looks fantastic, functions great, and is a superb value. Highly recommend! ( I also ordered and love the matching Strathwood Camano All-Weather Wicker Trash Can)
UPDATE: After a year in the sun out by the pool (and then being stored in the garage for the fall/winter), the all-weather wicker on the top of this box (and the trash can) did suffer the effects of the elements. Sun caused the top to to fade a little, but worse, it became brittle and easily cracked. The sides of the box were fine, but chunks of wicker eventually started to break away from the lid and it had to be retired. I would only recommend this box be used in an area shielded from direct sunlight.

Rinse the solution from the furniture, and allow it to dry completely in the sun. Developed for use in high humidity, the furniture is best not stored in centrally heated areas, as that could lead to excessive drying out of the wood.
Wood that becomes saturated with water and left over an extended period without drying out is more likely to warp and rot. The bases of furniture legs are probably the most vulnerable when it comes to water damage. If wood furniture is kept in the grass, at the poolside, or on a surface that collects rain water, the legs can become saturated. Covering the bottoms of each leg with rubberized material or small sections of cedar fencing material will help protect furniture from rotting from the bottom up.

Rubbermaid 5E39 Extra Large Deck Box with Seat Review

(More customer reviews)I like this box. It was easy to assemble within a few minutes. There are optional accessories to divide the inside, but none are included with this box. The assembled box is large enough to fit standard-sized garden tools, such as rakes, hoes, etc.
It has been in my back yard, under my second-story porch for the two months now. I put all my lawn-care equipment (sprayers, insecticides, tools, etc.) in it. None of them has gotten wet despite a few very heavy downpours. There is a place on the handle to apply a lock if you so choose.
It is not "airtight" so I imagined insects might make their way inside, but so far that hasn't happened. Maybe because I don't keep any food in it, or maybe the platic smell is a repellant.
It is definitely sturdy enough to sit on.
You can't push this box flush with a wall because it needs about three inches of clearance behind it to allow for opening it without scrating the rear of the top.
All in all, a good purchase. Amazon's price is also perfect. I compared to my local Lowes, and Amazon's price is better - and with free shipping and no tax. Can't beat that!
