(More customer reviews)This set arrived at our home in the Caribbean a couple of months ago. I ordered it after 3 months of researching outdoor dining sets. It was my second choice for an outdoor dining set; the first choice could not be sent to a shipping consolidator. My family couldn't feel more fortunate. The Windsor Dining set is absolutely gorgeous and an exquisite accent to our mid century modern home.
The chairs work perfectly for dining at the Windsor dining table. They are among the most comfortable dining chairs in which anyone (lots of holiday guests included) has ever sat. They are also fantastically comfortable and roomy lounging chairs and I recommend adding a set of the Windsor ottomans to your order. The chairs are extremely sturdy (for heavy folks)and lightweight so very easy to move around (even for the elderly).
Maintenance is simple; soap and water, even for mastiff slobbered cushion covers.
Things you should know:
1. A couple of hitches in the assembly; two of the chairs had assembly holes at slightly skewed angles. Assembly takes a little patience, but doesn't require IKEA neurosurgery.
2. The finish is not quite black; the set has a bronzeish fleck set into the black, so works as black but also with more neutrals than you'd think. The cushions are more a light taupe than the off-white they appear in the photos.
3. As part of a set, the Windsor dining table NEEDS a glass top. It is flimsy and marrs easily. Even with the price of a glass tabletop, I think this set is the best value out there.
4. We bought 2 sets of these chairs; 6 fit comfortably at the table- 2 with ottomans overlook the view. The glass top we are buying will seat eight.At dinner a couple of weeks ago, a friend remarked to her husband, "Honey, we're never buying teak again." She said it was too heavy. After 30 years in the Caribbean, we've had teak. And iron. And cast aluminium...they're all heavy, unwieldly and require a lot of maintenance.
Unlike teak and iron and cast aluminium, this set is not going to last decades- but while it lasts, we will have the most comfortable dining set around.
